This lush green gem is the most verdant of all the Canary Islands, and a major draw for hikers and botanists. The vast Caldera de Taburiente is one of the largest volcanic craters on earth, and the view from it’s rim spectacular. The vista overhead is also out of this world; the skies above La Palma are among the clearest anywhere so the stargazing opportunities are unbeatable. The capital, Santa Cruz de la Palma, offers fine Canarian architecture at every turn.
