El Hierro

> Giant lizards

Known locally as “La Isla Chiquita” ( the small island ), El Hierro is by far the least commercialized ( and least visited ) of the islands, It’s appeal lies mostly with nature lovers keen to enjoy a varied landscape of speckled meadows, the aromatic pine forests and junipers of El Sabinar, and the wild coastline hammered by crashing waves, such as at Roques de Salmor. The solitude also suit’s a shy reptile indigenous to El Hierro. Efforts to conserve these giant lizards can be seen at Lagartario.
